Job Description:

 

Associate — Chemistry and Life Sciences Team positions offered by Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton LLP (Washington, D.C.). Meet in person or virtually with research scientists to gain sufficient insight into their new technologies and developments to prepare patent applications. Converse fluently in a wide range of technologies related to biology, biotech, bioinformatics, artificial intelligence, machine learning and/or related software. File patent applications and engage with patent office examiners to explain distinction among technologies to prosecute patent applications to grant of patent, including conducting examiner interviews, preparing written arguments and appeal briefs. Instruct other law firms in the prosecution of related patent applications. Research existing patents and pending patent applications as part of patentability, freedom to operate/clearance and validity studies. Communicate orally and in writing with research scientists, legal counsel, and business decision-makers regarding the same. Participate in challenges to patents at the patent office. Communicate with outside counsel in connection with all activities mentioned above. Work in a wide range of technologies at the intersection of biology and software including computational biology, sequencing technologies, digital pathology, artificial intelligence/machine learning, therapeutic development, medical devices, and laboratory/clinical trial-based systems.

 

 

Minimum Requirements:

 

Requires a JD or foreign equivalent degree and a bachelor’s or foreign equivalent degree in computational biology, artificial intelligence, bioinformatics, applied mathematics or a related field. Eligible for registration as a US patent attorney. Eligible to be licensed to practice law in at least one US state. Position reports to Washington, DC office. Telecommuting permitted in accordance with company policy, but must live within commuting distance of stated office. We are offering a salary of $225,000 to $285,000 per year.
